The Open Front Door to your Data - Announcing a White Paper by Function1

Generations ago, documents and prized objects were hidden from the public, secured in the safes of many homes, offices, banks, and institutions. Under close protection, as well as under lock and key, this tangible-data was protected from unauthorized parties through the implementation of time-tested procedures.

As the world changed and technology improved, the methodology for approaching and securing this data changed as well. In our February 2015 White Paper, Protecting the CIA, we discussed the importance in protecting the...

To Review or Not to Review – That Is the Question.

I’d like to think that there is the perfect employee out there in the world, but in reality, no one is really perfect.  Isn’t everyone’s definition of a perfect employee different anyways based on the company’s needs?  We all have certain standards and expectations of our company, colleagues and ourselves and need to make sure that at the very minimum these are met.  A company is only as good as its employees, right?

In order to ensure that employees are performing at their best and are continuously improving, a company should define a clear performance review process. It also...

But, what’s in it for employers?  Besides the tangible allure of savings in real estate-related costs, businesses that offer the ability to work from home benefit from an increased level of...

Managing AngularJS Content within Oracle WebCenter Sites

There are a multitude of reasons organizations will turn to a content management system, but the underlying goal is the same across the board: Managing your content in an organized way.  The examples that first come to mind include managing assets such as page titles, articles, images, but what happens when a more complex asset is introduced like an AngularJS widget?

A Tale of Two Cities:

With WebCenter Sites you don’t have to give up control of the contents of your organization’s widgets. Out of the box WebCenter Sites does not natively support...

Splunk Knowledge... Share it Through Documentation

Anyone who has worked in professional services knows that technical documentation is always requested for any type of content delivery. Of course the importance of documentation extends far beyond the consulting realm, as it is always a good practice for organizations to document their technical content. In today's blog I will attempt to write a non-technical blog about documenting technical Splunk content.

So what should be included in Splunk content documentation? Here is a breakdown, by heading, of the information that I have found to be very key in any Splunk content and use...

In 2014, Function1 launched a Wellness Program with the goal of promoting a healthy workplace through fitness and wellness challenges.  We have run a number of challenges over the years, ranging from step challenges using FitBit devices to meeting personal goals.  The average length of the challenges has been 3 months and participation has ranged from 40% to 60%, depending on the challenge.  We have also incentivized participation through rewarding winning participants and/or teams with gift cards.

In order to gain insight and tips on improving Function1’s wellness strategy,...

A Quick Migration of WordPress to Drupal 8

I recently discussed a DIRECT workflow for migrating WordPress to Drupal 8.

That process assumes you want to install WordPress on your local computer. But, remember that WordPress, being a CMS like Drupal, also requires Apache, mySQL and PHP.  Below I'll show you how to get that local WordPress environment setup.  BUT, the thought of setting up a new development environment for Wordpress might make you cringe, especially if you love Drupal the way I do.  If so, skip that part, you really don...

Migrations from WordPress to Drupal are required when customers are standardizing on Drupal to ease institutional IT staffing requirements, or they just want the many additional customization capabilities built into Drupal.  Here is how to migrate your WordPress data directly into Drupal 8 using the Migrate API.

Here is one workflow to get started quickly …

1.    Setup your D8 site (drupal-8-0-5) locally.  This blog post assumes your WP site is already setup on your local environment....

Jive to Drupal Migration

Recently, Function1 was engaged to perform a Jive migration project to Drupal 7 and specifically the Open Atrium 2.0 distribution since Jive is a communication and collaboration platform. As a team, we are familiar with Open Atrium and have used it few times on multiple projects and know its different content types. The challenge was in grabbing the data from the PostgreSQL database, which had close to 300 tables, and formulating the data source to map to the target Open Atrium content types.

In performing the migration, we extended the Drupal Migrate...
