Your SQL statements were cut off in the post unfortunately but I think I was able to get the gist of where you were going!
After a little research I believe this explains a intermittent problem we have been seeing with community security (which are essentially folders).  Basically some async jobs have have failed with little reason and have wiped clear all security for the given folder object (even the admin user). Getting access back is just a matter of going into the right db table and adding in a row or two, but is an admin headache.  When I checked the 2 communities that this has been a problem on, sure enough neither owner still exists in the system.
