Fine-tune Studio Portlets

Studio is a decent application; it allows you to create relatively customizable input forms and has good reporting capabilities, but occasionally you might want to customize something little bit more. This post isn’t going to show you any miraculous innovations in Studio (like, say, getting it to interact with existing databases), but it does give you that “little bit more” level of customization.

Say you’re customizing a form and want to change the text of the “Save” button to something else. Unfortunately, you can’t do this in the standard editor:

But, really all you’re doing with this WYSIWYG form editor is modifying an underlying XML file. Change that file, and you change that form. Fortunately, you can directly access the XML file to make minor tweaks to it that you can’t do in the WYSIWYG editor.

Simply go back to the Studio Portlet Wizard and press CTRL-ALT-? (note that the “?” key requires you to also hold the shift key down). Yeah, you can play Tetris in the resulting popup by clicking “Credits”:


… but you can also click “Edit XML”, and modify the “Save” text in the “Entry Form:” section. Peruse around for other things you can change, but use caution, as one bad change can royally screw things up :). But make the right change and get rewarded with the desired effect:
